Following our exciting new research into how mass timber can improve healthcare settings and their microbiomes, UO News has picked up the story and is helping share our findings. While wood has long been considered too unsanitary for hospital use, recent studies are challenging that perception. Not only does wood transfer microbes at lower rates than less porous materials, but its presence has also been linked to better healthcare outcomes through its natural, biophilic qualities.
