At the 2018 Build Health Event, presentations focused on unseen issues of the built environment at scales from micro to macro, including chemistry of building products and indoor air to microbiomes, human perception, building operation, getting to net zero through mass timber, energy use in existing buildings and novel continuous commissioning efforts. Through structured break-out group discussions and unstructured conversations, we defined and elevated the most urgent industry research needs and outlined a direction to investigate these in the coming year. Understanding how to simultaneously design for the health of individuals, communities and planet requires unconventional thinking and an unconventional team. The potential for innovation lies at the intersection of our disciplines and applied impact through our long-term invested relationship in which knowledge is exchanged.
