Dr. Robert Martindale

Since 2005, Dr. Robert Martindale has been a tenured faculty member at OHSU in Portland, Oregon, where he is currently a Professor of Surgery and the Chief of the Division of GI and General Surgery.  He also serves as the Medical Director for Hospital Nutrition Services. His primary focus throughout his professional career has been on surgical education, gastrointestinal surgery, complex abdominal wall reconstruction and caring for patients with complex nutritional issues. He has won numerous teaching awards and continues to mentor young physicians and investigators. He is the author of over 300 publications, including peer reviewed manuscripts, review articles, book chapters, several medical educational videos, as well as being the co-editor of a textbook dealing with surgical and critical care nutrition. His research interests include perioperative methods for optimizing surgical outcomes, preventing perioperative infection, abdominal wall reconstruction, surgical metabolism, management of enterocutaneous and enteroatomospheric fistulae, and nutritional modulation of the immunity.
