A warm welcome to Poppy, the newest member of our Build Health Consortium!

Over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic, the world realized the role of indoor space in affecting lives and livelihoods. During this time, the scientific community learned a lot about infectious viral aerosols and transmission of the virus that causes Covid-19 and the Institute for Health in the Built Environment pioneered architectural research to apply these scientific findings to the design and operation of healthier environments. As we begin to return to offices, entertainment venues and travel destinations, scientific and design research is being operationalized by industry to increase occupant health and confidence while minimizing disruptions.

Thus, the Build Health industry research consortium is excited to collaborate with Poppy, a company working to create healthier, infection-resistant indoor environments while using less energy to operate them by improving the situational intelligence of buildings. Poppy has created cutting-edge technology that maps spaces and scans the air for viruses, molds, and other safety hazards. Using diffusers and monitors throughout a room, Poppy can reveal a building’s transmission pathways and identify pathogen hotspots. The company closes the loop by providing real time data to help building operators cut costs and improve safety, and even helps businesses communicate building safety with their employees.

IHBE and our collaborating lab, the Biology and the Built Environment Center, are excited to share knowledge with Poppy and other industry consortium research members to ensure safer, smarter building spaces and better air for us all.
