Microacoustic Test Chamber

Imagine living in an apartment building where you can hear every move your neighbors make through the walls. For many, this is a constant reality- whether it’s the loud noises of other people, trains, traffic, or building maintenance, it is important that spaces be designed with good acoustics.

Testing spaces for the acoustic performance of building assemblies, including the testing of mass timber, comes at a considerable cost, limiting who can test their buildings and floor assemblies. Standardized laboratory testing is required for some building types, like multifamily, and not for others, like commercial office spaces, which could certainly benefit from acoustic testing.

Often, acoustics are left behind in designs, especially when designing on a budget. So, we came up with a solution- a resource for small scale testing that can answer specific design questions- a micro acoustic testing chamber. The chamber offers a offering rapid conceptual and iterative testing capacity before a final full-scale assembly is selected for construction installation or more rigorous testing.
